Kundalini yoga is a powerful and transformative physical, mental, and spiritual practice that combines repetitive movement patterns, dynamic breath work, active meditation, chanting, and visualisation.
With its roots in ancient Indian philosophy Kundalini refers to the dormant spiritual energy that is believed to reside at the base of the spine. A typical Kundalini yoga class incorporates various components that work together to awaken and raise this Kundalini energy up through the chakras along the spine to promote self-awareness and physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
A kriya is a central component of any kundalini practice. Each kriya comes with a deliberate combination of physical postures (asana), hand positions (mudra), mantras, and breath patterns that channel and redirect the kundalini energy to create a specific shift in consciousness. This could be something very concrete (like better digestion) or something more etheric (like an open heart).
