Spring Has Sprung
10 years ago my health became a complete mystery to me... I was suffering with chronic digestive issues, I had excess gas and bloating, stomach pains and I was lucky if I had a poop once every few days. I had debilitating pain in my back, I was structurally out of alignment and had constant nerve pain down my legs.
I had a team of health care and medical professionals supporting me, I followed all the advise I was given. I was taking the right medication, I took supplements and was mindful of what I ate, I pushed through the pain and did regular exercise.
But I just couldn’t get my health back on track no matter what I did.
Eventually my health got so bad that I had to walk away from the job I loved, a career I had spent 20 years building.
I was lost and defeated.
It wasn’t until I started to take my health into my own hands, step away from the medical system and look for alternative help that I truely begin to see light at the end of the tunnel. I looked at what was really going on ‘in there’ and made simple, realistic change to my lifestyle.
I reversed years of pain and suffering and now live and work with full love and joy for life and health
Personal health journey
I used to think that my family and I were hearty and well. I thought that we were following a healthier lifestyle compared to the other families around us. However, when my son became ill, I realized that we might not be as healthy as we thought we were.
When my youngest son experienced intense emotional imbalance and digestive issues, we could not find the answers through traditional medicine. His health continued to deteriorate and affected the whole family. I had to look outside the box in order to find the answers we were looking for. We started cleaning up our lifestyle. We cooked at home, checked food labels, and became more active. This time, we were more mindful of what we put into our bodies. We became more conscious about setting the right examples to our children. When we started to examine our lifestyle and food choices, our youngest son improved. From an emotionally unbalanced boy, he became a strong and confident young man.
After being diagnosed with degenerative disk disease, I had to give up my job. I was experiencing chronic pain and movement was challenging. However, I found that being aware of food choices and emotional connections helped to relieve the symptoms. I integrated manual therapy and practiced the principles of health. I used breathing exercises and natural therapeutics to be pain-free and drug-free.
Once we made all the positive changes in our family, I began to see the reality of our family’s health issues. We thought constipation, bloating, PMS, and other body pains were normal. I was wrong. Although our lifestyle was good, there were a lot of improvements to be made to make ourselves healthier. This allowed us to recognise the need to focus on our health. It was a journey that we had to take.
Then one day, I got a call from a friend who was diagnosed with metastatic cancer. She needed to heal because she had four children who depended on her. I knew I needed the knowledge and skills to help her with this challenge. Mainstream medicine alone was not enough to help her. Natural therapies also had limitations. So, I decided to bridge the two together and create a more effective approach.
I have this innate passion for life and good health. My entire life has been devoted to health. I started my career in healthcare at an early age. At 17, I began caring for children and seniors with mental and physical disabilities. I became a registered nurse at 28 and spent most of my career in operating theatres.
I went back to school to study Naturopathy in 2017 when I found that traditional medicine was ineffective in managing chronic disease. I saw a growing trend in chronic disease in younger people. Diabetes was affecting much younger patients and I was scared for my children’s future. I wanted to educate and promote prevention rather than just treating and managing the symptoms. In 2018, I became a health coach after studying with Tyler Tolman.
Since then, my love for healthcare continued to grow. I am discovering new ways to promote good health through lifestyle, nutrition, and emotional balance.
Unique healing approach
Being a licensed nurse and a certified health coach allowed me to marry mainstream medicine with holistic healing. I see the importance of having an alternative to drugs, but I also value conventional medicine when needed. Holistic healing is simple and effective. It prescribes a lifestyle to reverse the symptoms and not mask them. It is a continuous journey to heal from chronic disease.
Because of both experiences, I understand my patients better. As a registered nurse, I am knowledgeable of disease treatments from doctors. Having studied natural health science, I can look for holistic methods to help patients heal. I can meet patients who either want to stay on the mainstream side of treatment or want to go on a natural-healing journey. I can also integrate both approaches in order to create a balanced program.
With this approach, patients tend to see a 75% improvement in their health issues within 12 weeks. For example, one of my successful clients is a 67-year-old woman who suffered from debilitating rheumatoid arthritis. She reduced her cytotoxic medication and became pain-free after embracing the principles of health.
I believe that lifestyle is the single most important factor that would determine health and disease. Every time we eat, we are either fuelling health or feeding the disease. The choices that we make today will dictate our health in the future.
Sometimes we have to accept that the universe guides us to where we are meant to be. I came across this picture in the back of my dads garage and was instantly draw to the elephants, at the age of 8 i gave them a new lease of life in my bedroom, sparking my love for these gentle giants which only grew and grew, as did my elephant collection, taking over my bedroom and eventually the house, when i left home and later emigrated to Australia the picture came with.
But It wasn't until I started to looking for a logo for my Health Coaching Business, one that had a personal meaning to me and would sum up what i was offering that this picture came to life, It has always had a place in my heart and now a hangs pride of place in my clinical practice room
